A private dining table set inside the only remaining Calcheira, an ancient lime kiln that operated from the late 19th century until 1953-54, preserved in its original state.
After a meticulous restoration, we have created an exclusive and private setting with a table for up to 8 guests, offering a unique experience of flavour and tradition. Perfect for intimate celebrations or unforgettable evenings.

The History of "The Grotto"
The Calchera or Calcheira was a kiln used for producing lime. There were six in Livigno and two in Trepalle.
The best-preserved one is located in Val Federia and was built in the second half of the 19th century.
The smallest of these Calcheire, situated in the La Nota area, remained in operation until 1953-54, producing 12,000 kg of lime per firing.
It is believed that lime kilns existed in Livigno as early as 1632, the year the Church of Santa Maria was built.
The Calcheire ceased to be used starting from the 1950s.
Their distinctive cylindrical shape featured two openings at the bottom: one provided airflow for combustion and was also used to remove ash residues, while the other was used to load the wood. Standing 3 meters high, the kiln was divided into two sections—fire for heating in the lower part and stone baking in the upper part.

Of course! We often welcome groups or organize private events of all kinds (baptisms, confirmations, weddings, etc.). With different types of dining rooms available, we can also reserve an entire area exclusively for your event.
For the most special occasions, our **Privé Table** in "Il Grotto" is the perfect choice! A table for up to 8 people in a charming setting for a truly unique experience.
The restaurant is easily accessible by car, with a mostly flat route except for the last 30 meters, which have a slight incline. The drive from the town center takes less than 10 minutes.
Alternatively, you can take a public bus and stop at the “International Medical Centre” bus stop. From there, it’s a 400-meter walk to the restaurant (approximately 10 minutes on foot).
We have a private parking lot for our guests right at the restaurant. On busier days, parking spaces may be limited, but 50 meters before the restaurant, there are free public parking spaces available.
Caring for our little guests has always been a cornerstone of our service. We have created a dedicated children's menu with classic dishes.
Additionally, right in front of our restaurant, we have set up a new play area surrounded by green meadows and away from traffic.
Four-legged friends have always been welcome here! Both in summer and winter!

Of course!
In summer, we are located at the entrance of the trail leading to the beautiful Val Federia. Along a moderately easy route, you can reach Malga Federia, and for the more experienced hikers, continue all the way up to the Carosello 3000 summit.
In winter, a picturesque trail through the nearby woods offers the opportunity for a snowshoe hike of about 1.5 hours. The route is marked with green poles by Livigno’s alpine guides.
